BEAVER CREEK, Colorado ” One of the most beloved and timeless children’s tales will come to life Wednesday in Beaver Creek as the Vilar Performing Arts Center presents the Enchantment Theatre’s production of “The Velveteen Rabbit” at noon and 6:30 p.m.

“When a child loves you for a long, long time … then you become real,” says the Horse to the Velveteen Rabbit in Margery Williams’ famous and much-loved literary classic.

A stuffed toy rabbit, given as a gift to a young boy, yearns for the day the boy will choose him as his special playmate so he can become real. Through love, devotion and a little bit of magic, he not only becomes a truly beloved toy but is miraculously transformed into a real woodland rabbit.

First published in 1922, this timeless tale is one of the most popular children’s books of all times. This production combines the theatrical magic of Enchantment Theatre Company with the musical magic of Tony, Emmy and Grammy Award-winning composer and arranger Don Sebesky. With an original musical score, puppets, masks and magic, the theater company brings to life this charming tale of love and devotion for the whole family.

The stage adaptation of the book is by Jennifer Blatchley Smith, Landis Smith and Leslie Reidel, with music composed by Sebesky and lyrics by Gloria Nissenson.

Tickets for “The Velveteen Rabbit” are $11 for children and $14 for adults and are available by calling the Vilar Center box office at 845-TIXS (8497) or by visiting
