VAIL, Colorado –Christine Marie Stoddart, 47, of Vail and formerly of New York City, beloved bride of Glen Sawtelle, passed away suddenly due to complications related to lupus on Jan. 18.
Born April 2, 1963 in Port Jefferson, N.Y., Chris grew up on Long Island and led an active sports life at Earl L. Vandermuelen High School, playing field hockey, softball, basketball and volleyball. Christine earned the Gold Key Award her senior year. This prestigious NYSPHASS Award is presented to athletes who have at the end of their high school careers participated in intramurals, varsity and junior varsity sports and demonstrated leadership skills. Recipients of the Gold Key Award must consistently contribute to the athletic community in their school throughout the four year high school span.
She received a B.A. in political science and masters in public administration from Long Island University-C.W. Post. Christine recently retired after nearly 23 years at New York City Metropolitan Transit Authority to live her dream life in Vail.
Christine is survived by husband Glen Sawtelle; father Gordon Stoddart; mother Ilah; sisters Amy Carillo and Stacey Zink; and nieces Holly Zink, Ally and Ashley Carillo. Services were held for Christine in Port Jefferson at Bryant Funeral Home and at the Lutheran Cemetery in Queens on Monday.
