Churchill reinstatement hearing set for July 1 in Denver
DENVER, Colorado ” The Denver District Court clerk’s office says a one-day hearing has been scheduled for July in the case of a fired University of Colorado professor who wants his job back.
Former ethnic studies professor Ward Churchill will make his case for reinstatement July 1 before Denver District Court Chief Judge Larry Naves. CU attorneys will argue against Churchill’s request.
A Denver jury concluded last month that CU wrongly fired Churchill after he wrote an inflammatory essay about the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks. The university had argued Churchill was fired for academic fraud.
CU attorney Patrick O’Rourke has said the jury’s decision to award Churchill only $1 was a clear indication that jurors believed Churchill suffered no damages.
