EAGLE, Colorado “-The 2nd annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration returns to Eagle Sunday, providing locals a traditional fiesta and a chance to celebrate Hispanic culture. La Nueva Mix, the only live, local Hispanic radio station, is hosting the event from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Eagle River Center in Eagle.

This year there will be six traditional Mexican bands playing everything from salsa, meringue, cumbia, nortena and mariachi. Cinco de Mayo would not be complete without tastes of Mexico ” 12 food vendors will sell homemade specialties throughout the day.

Families will appreciate the large kids zone which will include seven bouncy castles, a horse and pony ride corral and a mechanical bull. There will also be a magic show, and various performances by local high school students from around the area.

The American Diabetes Association will perform free health exams for the public during the event.

Last year, the first Cinco de Mayo Celebration raised $5,000, which was given to the American Cancer Society. This year, organizers will donate half of the proceeds to the New American School in Gypsum and the other half will benefit Berry Creek Middle School in Edwards and will support the cost of painting the school gymnasium.

American Family Insurance of Summit, Eagle and Garfield County has raised enough money to purchase more than 600 toys for children, which they intend to give away throughout the day at the Cinco de Mayo celebration.

Cost for the event is $3 for adults and $1 for children. Tickets are available at the door. Children’s activities are $1 per child. This is an indoor event, in the 55,000-square-foot new Eagle River Center located at the Eagle Fairgrounds in Eagle.
