Class on thyroid disorders held April 7 in Vail Valley

VAIL VALLEY, Colorado –When people experience symptoms such as fatigue, stubborn weight gain, depression, hair loss and muscle aches, they often wonder if they have a thyroid condition. However, thyroid dysfunction is not always easily, or accurately, diagnosed, says functional medicine practitioner Jacqui Slavin, of Functional Wellness, LLC in Edwards.

Patients often attribute symptoms to stress, aging, menopause or lifestyle habits, and neglect to seek care, Slavin says.

Although women tend to be more frequently affected by thyroid disorders, men are certainly at risk for thyroid conditions, and may be easily overlooked due to the prevalence in females, she says.

Slavin will present an “Understanding the Thyroid” class at 6:30 p.m., April 7 at Colorado Mountain College in Edwards. She will gives tips about common foods to avoid and natural supplements to be wary of if you have certain thyroid problems. Pre-registration is required. Call the Vail/Eagle Valley Campus of Colorado Mountain College in Edwards at 970-569-2900 to reserve your seat.
