VAIL, Colorado ” The first hour of the new year was a painful one for a 25-year-old man who was assaulted on Bridge Street in Vail, Colorado.

Police noticed a tussle around 1 a.m. on New Year’s between two men and quickly separated them. They told the two to call it a night and go home. One of the men started to walk away, but apparently wasn’t ready to go home quite yet.

Police said he ran up from behind them and jumped in the air and landed a roundhouse punch to the 25-year-old’s left side of his face. He collapsed to the ground and didn’t move after the punch, police said.

The man who threw the punch was immediately taken into custody for assault and battery, while the recipient of the sucker punch was taken to Vail Valley Medical Center for treatment on the contusion above his eyebrow and other scrapes from the fight. He was also summonsed for disorderly conduct.

A manager at the night club nearby said the guy who threw the punch instigated the fight and was trying to get different people throughout the night to fight him.

VAIL ” A vacation in Vail was spoiled on New Year’s Eve for a man and woman who spent the night in the hospital after their friend allegedly beat them up.

They started the day snowboarding, then went to a bar for a couple drinks. Then they went to the store to get ready for the evening’s festivities when an argument broke out between two of the men over who would pay. They were shoving each other and the girlfriend stepped in between them to break it up.

Instead of breaking it up, one of the men punched her in the face and knocked her to the ground. The boyfriend didn’t take that too well and the two men started exchanging fists. Again, the girlfriend tried to break it up and again got punched. She suffered a one-inch cut on her forehead, a cut inside her mouth and a sprained right hand from the incident.

The man who allegedly punched her said she started attacking him and knocked him down, and that he never hit her. Police didn’t believe him and charged him with disorderly conduct and assault and battery. The couple was discharged from Vail Valley Medical Center shortly after the incident.

VAIL ” The 24-year-old who tested the qualifications of the door man at a Vail Village bar found out that he can do more than stand there and check ID’s.

Police said after the 24-year-old was kicked out of the bar for causing problems, he came back and was insisting to be let back in. The answer from the door man was no, but the man tried getting past him.

Then the persistent ex-patron pushed past the door man and ran into the bar. Another door man saw this and tried to stop the man, but got punched in the face. Then he was quickly tackled by the other door man and held there until police showed up. They charged him with trespassing and disorderly conduct.
