Colo. boy run over by school bus has foot amputated
DENVER – Doctors have amputated the left foot of a 12-year-old Colorado boy who was run over by a school bus last week.
Investigators believe Diego Lemos was running beside the bus, trying to get the driver’s attention, when he fell and was run over on April 30.
Diego, who attends Westgate Elementary in Jefferson County, also has hip and pelvis injuries.
He remained hospitalized in Denver Thursday. He’s been upgraded from critical to serious condition.
Diego’s parents say he’s a strong, big-hearted boy and they have faith he’ll bounce back. His dad, Ken Lemos, calls him “my little Superman.”
Police say they don’t believe the driver knew the boy was there. No charges have been filed but the investigation is still open.
