Colo. couple faces 28 charges of animal cruelty
FAIRPLAY, Colo. – A Colorado couple who own a sled-dog racing business have each been charged with 28 felony animal cruelty charges.
A Park County judge charged Samuel Walker and Diane Walker with six charges of aggravated animal cruelty and 22 charges of animal cruelty.
The Walkers were arrested on Christmas Day and 100 starving dogs were seized from their Park County kennel.
Arrests warrants had been issued for the two after Park County authorities reported finding six dead dogs and dozens of starving dogs Dec. 17 at the Pawsatrak Racing Sled Dog Kennel near Hartsel, about 70 miles southwest of Denver.
Authorities say they went to the kennel after getting an anonymous tip. The dogs were all crossbreeds of Alaskan descent used in sled racing.
