Colo. lawmakers want some respect
DENVER, Colorado ” Members of the Colorado House are fed up with being addressed by just their first names or last names. From now own, it’s “Representative So-and-so” to you.
Speaker Terrance Carroll, a Denver Democrat, issued a memo Friday demanding “all lobbyists, governor’s staff, executive staff, visitors, Capitol staff and press” show some respect by use representatives’ proper titles.
Carroll says he wrote the memo after getting “many, many complaints” from lawmakers. He says the rule applies whenever lawmakers are on official business, wherever they are.
Republican Rep. Jerry Sonnenberg of Sterling joked that he’s going to take the memo home to his wife.
Republican Cory Gardner of Yuma asked, with a laugh, “Does this mean the governor has to stop calling me jerk?”
