Colo. leaders join push to make education an issue

DENVER, Colorado ” Some Colorado leaders have spoken up in support of a nationwide campaign to make education a key issue in this fall’s election.

Lt. Gov. Barbara O’Brien, Senate President Peter Groff and Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper joined New York City schools chief Joe Klein Sunday in promoting education.

The national movement is called the Education Equality Project. It began a little more than a month ago with Klein and civil-rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton.

Other backers include former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and former Colorado Gov. Roy Romer.
