Colo. man fined over doughnuts left out for bears
GREELEY, Colo. – A Frederick plumber has been fined $700 on allegations that he illegally baited a bear by leaving doughnuts, pastries and bread outside for an eventual hunt in Boulder County.
Thirty-nine-year-old Andre Ciaravola also received a year of probation, and he cannot hunt in Colorado for five years. He entered an Alford plea Wednesday on misdemeanor counts of hunting with bait and illegal possession of wildlife. The plea means he didn’t admit guilt but acknowledges a jury might convict him.
Weld County Deputy District Attorney Hollie Wilkinson says that because the sweets were left in a particular spot in September 2007, bears were trained to go there.
