Colo weather smorgasbord: tornadoes, snow, hail

Associated Press
Vail, CO Colorado

DENVER – Thunderstorms are rolling through the Denver area and eastern plains, dropping pea-sized hail in some places and making conditions ripe for tornadoes.

A tornado warning has been issued for parts of the metro area, including northeastern Jefferson County, western Adams County, northern Denver County and southwestern Weld County. The National Weather Service says several funnel clouds have been reported near Barr Lake, about 20 miles northeast of Denver.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in place for northeastern Colorado.

Communities in Colorado’s foothills and mountains are still monitoring rivers and streams at high levels from snow that melted quickly during hot weather earlier in the week. More snow is expected high in the mountains over the weekend, 3 to 6 inches forecast for the higher peaks.
