Colorado agencies told to post finances online
DENVER, Colorado ” Gov. Bill Ritter issued an executive order Thursday telling state agencies to post the state’s revenue and spending records on the Internet.
Ritter said citizens should have free and meaningful access to the state’s financial information.
Secretary of State Bernie Buescher said taxpayers deserve to know how their money is being spent.
“The era in which government can say trust me, we spend your money well, is gone,” Buescher said.
Ritter says not all financial information will be available, however.
He says some information, including individual spending on state credit cards, needs to remain confidential to protect the privacy, safety and security of state employees.
