Denver Post

Travelers can take a bus from Denver to Gunnison thanks to a new partnership between the Colorado Department of Transportation and eight local agencies and transit partners.

The 215-mile Gunnison-Denver Express, or “Mountaineer Route,” will transport passengers and packages via U.S. Highways 50 and 285. The bus service also provides a connection to Denver International Airport. One-way fare is $32.25.

It has five round trips per week with stops at Poncha Springs, Buena Vista, Fairplay, Jefferson, Grant, Pine Junction, the Cold Spring park-and-ride, Denver Union Station and the Denver Bus Center.

Round-trip service is available Thursday through Sunday, only inbound service to Denver on Mondays, no service on Tuesdays and only outbound service to Gunnison on Wednesdays.

Tickets for the route can be purchased through the Black Hills Stage Lines website at or from the ticket agent at each station.
