Colorado college students urge lawmakers to save higher ed
DENVER, Colorado ” College students are calling on state lawmakers to avoid a $300 million cut to higher education.
About 200 students from the Auraria Campus in Denver delivered the message during a rally at the state Capitol on Tuesday after marching through downtown.
The campus is home to three schools, including Metro State College.
Metro State student government president Andrew Bateman said Democrats and Republicans have both come up with good ideas and need to work together. They include getting rid of tax credits and exemptions to raise more money, and pay cuts and furloughs for state employees.
Some students at the rally said they can barely afford current tuition and might have to drop out if tuition is raised to make up for budget cuts.
