Colorado could get $127.5M for expanding unemployment

DENVER, Colorado ” Unlike Texas and Louisiana, Colorado could end up expanding unemployment benefits using federal stimulus dollars.

Colorado could get an extra $127.5 million for jobless payments under a bill up for its hearing at the Capitol on Wednesday before the Senate Business, Labor and Technology Committee.

People who end up quitting their jobs to move to another city where their spouse has been hired would qualify for unemployment under the bill. An estimated 2,400 people who didn’t earn enough money in their jobs to qualify for unemployment would also get checks over the next two years.

That’s because it would allow the state to look further back into their job history to calculate whether they’re eligible.
