Colorado: Doctors calls for 500-foot zone around clinics
BOULDER, Colo. – One of the few doctors who performs late-term abortions is calling for tougher limits on protesters and says he’s working on a city ordinance that would create a 500-foot buffer zone around his clinic.
Dr. Warren Hern says people regularly “harass” patients who visit the Boulder Abortion Clinic, prompting him to increase security measures. Boulder’s ordinance requires protesters to stay at least 8 feet away, which Hern says is regularly violated.
A handful of protesters stood outside Hern’s Boulder Abortion Clinic Friday in a cold drizzle. Protester Charlie Danaher says Hern shouldn’t fear them and says a 500-foot buffer zone would violate their First Amendment rights. The protest was part of the 40 Days for Life anti-abortion campaign in dozens of U.S. cities.
