Colorado girls found OK; dad dies after shooting self
AURORA, Colorado ” Two young girls have been found safe after an Amber Alert in suburban Denver, Colorado, but authorities say a woman believed to be their mother was found dead and their father died after shooting himself hours later.
A search was launched for Brianna Patterson, 4, and her 3-year-old sister, Aliyah, after the woman was found dead in a home in the eastern suburb of Aurora on Tuesday. Authorities haven’t said how she died or released her name, but police say she was “probably” the girls’ mother.
Police say Brian Carl Patterson, 38, the girls’ father, shot himself late Tuesday after he was pulled over by state troopers in the northern suburb of Thornton. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
It’s not clear if the girls were in the car with him, but police say they were found unharmed.
Public records show the home where the woman was found dead was owned by Pamela Patterson, and that she had filed for divorce from Brian Patterson in January.
Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates said investigators believe Brian Patterson struck his estranged wife during an argument on Monday. A warrant was issued for Brian Patterson Tuesday night on suspicion of domestic violence and assault.
The Amber Alert from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation said Brian Patterson had a history of domestic violence and was a person of interest in the woman’s death.
