Colorado: Governor vows swift replacement for Salazar
DENVER, Colorado ” Colorado Democrats are jostling for the attention of Gov. Bill Ritter as he mulls how to replace Democratic Sen. Ken Salazar.
Salazar is leaving the Senate to be President-elect Barack Obama’s interior secretary. That leaves two years on a Senate term for which the Democratic governor must appoint a successor.
Already, Denver Rep. Diana DeGette says she’s talked to Ritter about the possibility of stepping in. Also expressing interest is Democratic Rep. Ed Perlmutter of the Denver suburbs.
Ritter has vowed the decision will be made quickly, but he hasn’t said whether he’ll set up a panel to screen candidates or whether he’ll name one on his own counsel.
