Colorado Grand returns to Vail Village starting Monday

VAIL — The 28th annual Colorado Grand, a unique auto event that begins and ends in Vail each year, returns starting Monday.

Participants will begin to arrive this weekend as they prepare to begin their 1,000-mile journey through the High Country. The pre-1960 vintage vehicles will roar out of Vail on Monday morning. Rain or shine, the drivers will make the four-day trip through the mountains, returning to Vail on Friday, crossing the event finish line in Lionshead Village. The cars will then continue on a well deserved victory lap — cruising by local shops and restaurants. The morning of Sept. 17 will bring more celebration of the vintage sports and touring cars including Aston Martins, Bentleys, Ferraris and Jaguars. The Colorado Grand Concours d’Non Elegance puts participating cars on the plaza in Lionshead, and owners aren’t allowed to wash their vehicles.

Philanthropic Effort

Year after year the Colorado Grand has continued to attract participants from around the world, often including several vehicles from the 1920s and ’30s. Since its start in 1989 as a charitable event, the Colorado Grand has donated more than $4.5 million to Colorado charities and communities. The event also awards an $8,000 college scholarship to a graduating high school senior in each of the towns that host their lunch stops along their four-day journey. The donations are made possible by the event’s participants and sponsors.

Beyond the finish-line and Concours d’Non Elegance, celebrations will continue to take place throughout Lionshead Village restaurants and decks with Colorado Grand specials throughout the weekend.
