Colorado grocery workers wrapping up contract vote
DENVER, Colorado – Unionized Colorado grocery workers are wrapping up voting on a contract offer from Safeway.
Members of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7 who work at Safeway and Kroger Co.’s King Soopers and City Market chains started voting last month on contract offers from the companies. Safeway workers also were deciding whether to authorize a strike.
Union members from the Denver and Colorado Springs areas have already voted to reject the contract offers, but Safeway workers in Montrose were still voting through Tuesday.
UFCW Local 7 represents about 17,000 workers at King Soopers, City Market, Safeway and Albertsons whose contracts expired May 9. Albertsons workers are waiting for more contract talks.
