Colorado House to debate new oil and gas rules
DENVER, Colorado ” The Colorado House is preparing to debate new rules for the oil and gas industry, and Republicans are promising a fight.
Republican Rep. Cory Gardner of Yuma says he has prepared more than 130 amendments to offer when the debate begins Thursday.
The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission drew up the rules at the direction of the Legislature, which wanted more protections for public health, private property and the environment.
Opponents say the rules will hurt an already-struggling industry. They point to soaring unemployment rates in oil- and gas-rich Garfield, Mesa and Weld counties.
The rules are scheduled to go into effect next month if the Legislature approves them.
