Colorado hunting, fishing licenses extended to March

VAIL, Colorado ” Colorado anglers and small game hunters who usually get new licenses each January have until March to get a new license this year.

Starting in 2009, Colorado fishing and small game licenses do not expire until March 31.

Also, beginning in 2009, Colorado residents over the age of 64 will be charged a $1 fee for an annual fishing license. Previously the license was free, but the new charge will go toward a 25-cent search-and-rescue fee and a 75-cent surcharge to fund the Wildlife Public Education Advisory Council.

The base price for an annual fishing license for Colorado residents ages 16 to 64 is $26. A small game license is $21, and a combination fishing and small-game license is $41.

Anglers or hunters who still have a 2008 fishing or small game license can continue to use their old 2008 license until the end of March.

The ending date was changed to reflect the fact that many small game seasons start in the late fall of one year and continue until early spring of the next year.
