Colorado inmate faces life in prison over letters to girls
BOULDER, Colo. – A man convicted of enticing a child faces up to life in prison after sending letters to young girls from jail.
Twenty-six-year-old Gino Rael had been given a four-year deferred sentence in 2006. But a judge ruled Tuesday Rael violated the terms of that sentence by mailing letters to girls ages 10 to 17.
Rael denies knowing the girls were under age.
Prosecutors allege the letters were meant to groom the girls for sexual assault. Parents notified police after seeing the letters.
Rael was jailed last year after he was expelled from sex-offender treatment. He says he was unfairly expelled because of his religion and his unconventional clothing.
