Colorado marijuana registry applications hit 1,000 per day

DENVER – Applications for Colorado’s medical marijuana registry have nearly quadrupled from a year ago, with the state’s health department receiving about 1,000 applications per workday.

The flood of applications from people registering with the state to legally use medical marijuana has led to a backlog of six months between application and issuance of a license.

Health officials are seeking funding to add temporary workers to help with the backlog.

In a statement, the state health department said it would no longer review applications submitted to its walk-up window for accuracy.
