Colorado museum leader to help Iraq museum rebuild

AURORA, Colorado ” City officials in Aurora say the head of the Aurora History Museum will lead restoration of the Iraq National Museum, which was looted in the immediate aftermath of the downfall of Saddam Hussein’s regime.

Aurora officials say Aurora History Museum Executive Director Gordon Davis will direct the Iraq Cultural Heritage Project, backed by a $13 million grant from the U.S. State Department.

The project will focus on developing museum staff and infrastructure, and improving galleries and storage facilities.

City officials say Davis plans to return to the Aurora History Museum in about a year.
