Colorado panel takes another look at raising car fees
DENVER, Colorado ” A governor’s transportation panel will look at increasing Colorado car registration fees to help pay for an estimated $500 million per year in needed repairs to state highways and bridges.
Transportation commissioner Doug Aden says that will be one of the issues on the table when the panel meets Thursday. The panel came up with the repairs estimate last year.
State lawmakers considered several versions of a plan that would have raised about $300 million a year from increased fees. The plan was ultimately killed by its Democratic sponsor. Majority Democrats said they were unable to reach a deal that Republicans could also support, placing some of the blame on election year politics.
