Colorado: Pro-McCain Dems on road; Simmons stumps for Obama

DENVER, Colorado ” With less than a week to go before Election Day, both major presidential campaigns are courting Colorado voters with celebrities, athletes, activists and politicians.

A “Hispanics for Victory” bus tour is campaigning for Republican John McCain in southern Colorado Wednesday. On board are Democratic voters Silver Salazar and Silver Jaramillo, former state Sen. Larry Trujillo and McCain’s Naval Academy roommate, Frank Gamboa.

The bus will stop in La Junta, Trinidad, Walsenberg and Alamosa.

Hip-hop music pioneer Russell Simmons and former Denver Broncos wide receiver Rod Smith will campaign for Democrat Barack Obama in Denver. They’ll hold a noon rally on the Auraria Campus to encourage college students to vote early.

Democrats are also promoting Republicans who support Obama. They planned a conference call Wednesday with two Republicans ” Greeley City Councilman Charles Archibeque and the former publisher of Fortune magazine, Jim Hayes. The unaffiliated mayor of Montrose, Erica Lewis Kennedy, was also scheduled to join them.
