Colorado revising standards for CSAP content

DENVER, Colorado ” Colorado officials are revising academic standards for students in kindergarten through 12th grade for the first time in 15 years.

The Colorado Department of Education released drafts Thursday for new standards in math, music, science and reading, writing and communicating.

The standards will likely be used to design the 2012 Colorado Student Assessment Program or CSAP, the state test that gauges student achievement.

The new standards will be adopted by December. The department is launching a state tour on May 18 to get feedback from parents and the community.

Colorado is borrowing concepts from places with high graduation rates including Singapore, Finland, Massachusetts and Virginia.

The revised standards focus on a mastery of concepts, rather than facts.
