Colorado: Romanoff gets another backer in primary contest
DENVER, Colorado – Former House Speaker Andrew Romanoff has gained the backing of a Democratic legislator in a primary battle against the president’s favorite, Sen. Michael Bennet.
State Sen. Morgan Carroll of Aurora backed Romanoff on Wednesday for the U.S. Senate. Last week, President Barack Obama sided with Bennet.
In a statement sent to reporters Wednesday, the Democratic senator said either Bennet or Romanoff would be a good choice for the Senate. But she cited Romanoff’s experience in the Legislature in the endorsement.
Bennet, a former Denver school superintendent, is seeking his first full term after being appointed to the seat when then-Sen. Ken Salazar became Interior Secretary. Besides Obama, Bennet’s backers include Democrats Gov. Bill Ritter and Sen. Mark Udall.
