Colorado Senate panel backs cell phone bill
DENVER, Colorado ” A bill requiring drivers to use handsfree devices while talking on cell phones has passed another vote at the Colorado Capitol. But it could run into some trouble later.
The Senate Finance Committee backed the measure in a 4-3 vote Thursday. Two of the lawmakers who voted yes said they had concerns and indicated they might change their minds.
The mother of a 9-year-old Fort Collins girl hit by a driver suspected of talking on her cell phone returned was in the committee room to watch the vote.
Drivers under 18, as well as bus and taxi drivers, would be barred from talking or texting on cell phones under the bill.
Verizon Wireless and the State Patrol support the bill, which has already passed the House.
