Colorado Springs Gazette to start free ’10-minute’ newspapers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado ” The Gazette newspaper in Colorado Springs hopes to revive advertising sales with new small newspapers meant to be read in about 10 minutes.

The newspaper announced Wednesday it will launch several targeted editions of a newspaper called Ink. Executive editor Jeff Thomas says the publications will be short enough to read in about the time it takes to eat a bagel.

Editions of Ink launch May 6 in downtown Colorado Springs, the city’s west side and in Manitou Springs. Ink editions will come out four days a week.

Publisher Steve Pope, former publisher of the Vail Daily and general manager of its parent company Colorado Mountain news Media, says the Ink publications will offer smaller markets for advertisers that can’t afford ads in the main newspaper. The Gazette is owned by Freedom Communications Inc. of Irvine, Calif.
