Colorado State BMX Series stops in Eagle

EAGLE — Sunday’s BMX action in Eagle accomplishes the proverbial something-for-everyone goal.
For those who follow the sport, top riders from around Colorado will be tackling the Eagle course. For those who dabble in BMX, there is the chance to compete. For future riders, there is a Strider event and finally, for spectators, there is a plethora of action.
“This a great opportunity to get out and see some great riders,” said Jay Lucas, Eagle race organizer. “We have riders from all over the state in all age brackets, and it’s super fun action.”
ACTION ALL DAY
The action gets underway at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Eagle BMX course located just east of the pool and ice rink complex.

Last year’s event attracted 249 competitors ranging in age from 3 to 64 years. Lucas expects to see that many riders, or more, returning to Eagle this weekend.
The Strider riders will kick off the racing on Sunday.
“People get as excited about the Strider races as they do the actual races,” Lucas said.
After the little kids finish up, age brackets starting at 5 years begin. Competitors make three laps around the course during a race.
Lucas noted that as a state series race, the Eagle event draws some of Colorado’s top riders.
“You will see a lot of kids running our track with No. 1 plates on their bikes, which means they are the fastest riders in the state,” he said.
‘TRY IT OUT’
For anyone interested in competing, race day registrations are available. It costs $20.
But Lucas urged anyone interested in trying out BMX to come on over to the races, see what the sport is all about and then take a spin when the racers move on.
“The track is open 24/7. Try it out,” he said.
