Colorado State Patrol names new chief

DENVER, Colorado ” James M. Wolfinbarger has been named chief of the Colorado State Patrol, replacing Mark V. Trostel, who is retiring.

Wolfinbarger, a 14-year veteran of the patrol, will assume his new duties on Feb. 27. He will be promoted from lieutenant colonel to full colonel.

Peter Weir, executive director of the state Department of Public Safety, announced Wolfinbarger’s appointment Friday.

Wolfinbarger joined the patrol in 1995. He is currently commander of field operations for the patrol’s Southern Colorado Region.

He has also served in the public affairs section, in homeland security training and in other areas.

Trostel had been chief since June 2003.
