Colorado state workers take second furlough day
DENVER, Colorado – Many state offices are closed again for another furlough day to help save money.
Driver’s license offices will be closed Friday as well as state history museums. State parks will be open but their visitor centers won’t be. State troopers as well as workers who process unemployment benefits will still be on the job. State courts are also open.
This is the second of four furlough days ordered by Gov. Bill Ritter earlier this year to save $13.6 million in the face of a budget shortfall. Legislators cut the budget and gave him the option of cutting salaries or calling for unpaid days off.
Friday was chosen to give furloughed workers a long weekend since they’ll also have off on Monday for Columbus Day.
