After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, Howard Alan Events’ Colorado Summer of Art returns to Beaver Creek — the place it all began.
About 30 years ago, the Summer of Art Colorado Series debuted in Beaver Creek, lining the mountain with artists. Now, it features two levels of about 100 artists showcasing their hand-crafted pieces, including jewelry, painting, sculpture, photography and ceramics.
“The show has matured to a smaller, more elegant show from the very beginning,” said show director Elaine Laurent. “It is all pretty upscale, but there’s something for everyone.”
The juried show requires artists to send in three photos of their artwork, as well as their booth display, to ensure every artist professionally presents their work.

“It doesn’t look like a typical mountain show. It looks more like miniature galleries,” Laurent said of the 10×10 and 10×20 booths. “There are going to be no draped tables. The displays are worthy of the artists’ quality of work. It’s really an elegant way to come to an art show that’s very refined and well-done.”

In addition to nationally known artists, the show features 30 high-quality Colorado artists.

“Most of the Colorado artists have a deep appreciation for Colorado, and it comes out in their work. You can see they’re all inspired by where they live. They have a deeper connection with nature, and it shows,” Laurent said.
The Colorado Summer of Art show has always been well attended and successful for the artists, who like to chat with clients, Laurent said. It also features a few live painting demonstrations, and jewelers like Eva Hornung and Alina Rominger are happy to alter their pieces to suit clients’ tastes.
“It’s just a fun show,” Laurent said.
