Colorado: Sunday liquors sales should start July 1

Vail, CO Colorado

DENVER, Colorado ” Gov. Bill Ritter plans to sign a bill allowing liquor stores to remain open on Sunday.

He’s scheduled a ceremony Monday to sign the bill (Senate Bill 182) into law. It would take effect July 1.

Colorado is one of at least 15 states that currently prohibits liquor stores from being open on Sunday.

Liquor store owners have fought previous attempts to change the 75-year-old law, saying they would rather stay closed on Sundays.

This year, many of them switched positions to block another proposal that would have allowed supermarkets to compete with them by selling full-strength beer and wine. A Senate committee killed the supermarket bill in February.
