Colorado’s first stimulus highway project ready to go

DENVER, Colorado “-Colorado’s first road project paid for with federal stimulus money is getting under way.

A groundbreaking ceremony is planned Tuesday for repaving about a mile of Belleview Avenue in Arapahoe County.

Highway officials say they don’t know how many jobs the $1.2 million project will create.

Colorado got about $400 million for highway projects from the stimulus package along with another $103 million for mass transit.

Much of the highway money will be spent on relatively small projects because they’re ready to go.

About $8 million in stimulus money is already being spent to supplement work on an existing project on Interstate 25 near Trinidad. The Belleview project is the first to be financed entirely with stimulus money.
