Colorado’s Salazar faces confirmation hearing Thursday
DENVER, Colorado ” Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar faces a Senate confirmation hearing in Washington Thursday for his posting as secretary of the Department of the Interior.
The Democratic senator must be approved by the full Senate before joining the Cabinet of President-elect Barack Obama, who chose Salazar for the job last month.
Salazar’s hearing will be before the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources Thursday morning. Then the full Senate must sign off on his appointment.
If approved, Salazar would oversee some 500 million acres of federally owned lands, including national parks. The former rancher will almost certainly be asked about oil and gas drilling on federal lands.
