Colorado’s Salazar: Interior will help ‘remake America’
DENVER, Colorado ” Interior Secretary Ken Salazar says the department will play a key role in President Barack Obama’s quest to “remake America” and free the country from dependence on foreign energy sources.
Salazar, who resigned his Senate seat from Colorado, spoke Thursday to department employees in Washington while others across the country listened by phone and satellite.
They applauded when Salazar pledged to make decisions based on science and the public interest. Critics claimed that politics trumped science in the Bush administration.
Salazar echoed Obama’s call for openness and high ethical standards in government. More than a half-dozen Interior Department workers were disciplined for accepting gifts and in some cases having sex with employees of energy companies they regulated.
