Colorado’s Sen. Bennet talking to investors about regulation
DENVER – Investors are being called to Denver to talk with Sen. Michael Bennet about financial regulation.
The Democratic senator is talking with investors hurt by what he calls “Wall Street abuses.” Bennet supports a sweeping overhaul of financial regulations aimed at preventing market meltdowns like the one seen in 2008.
A bill pending in the U.S. Senate would tighten federal oversight of the insurance industry. It would also give the government unprecedented power to split up firms, with the goal of preventing businesses that are “too big to fail.”
The White House supports the plan and says the financial system needs to be reworked. The nation’s biggest business lobby, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, opposes the plan.
