Colorado’s Trail Ridge Road open for the season
ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, Colo. – Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park is open for the season, but rangers say freezing temperatures will probably mean overnight closures through the weekend.
The road billed as the country’s highest continuously paved road opened Friday morning.
Park officials say heavy snowpack will keep the Alpine Visitor Center and Trail Ridge Store closed until late next week.
Trail Ridge Road has been closed since Oct. 9. Crews began clearing snow in April.
The earliest that Trail Ridge Road has opened is May 7, in 2002. The latest it has opened is June 26. That was in 1943.
The road climbs to 12,183 feet and connects the towns of Estes Park and Grand Lake.
