Combating I-70 congestion from Denver to Vail

Vail Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL, Colorado ” The Colorado Department of Transportation is starting three programs this weekend designed to keep traffic flowing safely on Interstate 70 between the Vail Valley and Denver.

A pilot program allows vendors to sell chains and put chains on trucks along I-70 between Dotsero and Denver West Boulevard. Rhe program will continue until June.

A heavy tow program, now in its second season, will help clear trucks from the highway. The American Towing Alliance has stationed a number of heavy wreckers along I-70 to remove large vehicles quickly from traffic lanes on weekends, holidays and during inclement weather.

Finally, the Courtesy Patrol has resumed operations as well. Three trucks will patrol I-70 between the top of Floyd Hill and Silverthorne, looking for motorists in distress. The patrol offers free roadside assistance for smaller vehicles, helping with anything from flat tires to jump starts, minor mechanical work, and short-distance towing.
