EAGLE — When Bryan Kellen made his first appearance at the Comedy Night at the Bowlmor series back in 2007, he was excited — if not a bit anxious — about appearing before a mountain audience. With a background that brought him to some of the biggest stages in the country, including New York, San Francisco and Las Vegas, he hoped the smaller venue would be a good match for his big, physical comedic style.
Well, the excitement returns, without the anxiety, to the Bowlmor Cafe and Lounge, located in The Back Bowl in Eagle today at 8 p.m. with more of Kellen’s incredible, off-the-wall physical humor.
The National Comedy Hall of Fame anointed Kellen, who is a regular at Denver’s Comedy Works, as “one of the funniest up-and-coming comics in America,” and Entertainment Business Journal named him one of the country’s “Top 100 Comedians.” He is also a former winner of the Las Vegas Comedy Festival and the Laugh Across America series and has appeared on numerous TV comedy specials, including multiple gigs on the “George Lopez Late Night Show,” the latter of which were so successful that Lopez ultimately dragged him along on tour as his opener.
“Bryan’s reputation precedes him. This is his ninth appearance since we began the Comedy Night Series in 2007,” said Bowlmor owner and general manager Joe Gonzalez. “He tours nationally, so it’s always tough to nail him down for a show here. But when we do … it’s always incredible to see him work.”
About Kevin O’Brien
Kevin O’Brien will open for Kellen. O’Brien is no newbie to Denver’s robust comedy scene, having made a name for himself over the years at most of the city’s thriving comedy clubs. After breaking out as runner-up in Comedy Works’ annual New Faces Contest, he has become a mainstay at the nation’s top comedy showcases, including the Great American, High Plains and Chicago comedy festivals, among many others.
Gonzalez believes that both the quality of the performers and the affordability of the evening contribute to Comedy Night at the Bowlmor’s popularity.
“When you look at the cost of going out for an evening, let alone seeing live entertainment, this stacks up pretty well,” he said. “Where else can you get this caliber of professional entertainment so inexpensively and in such an intimate setting? Besides, everybody loves live comedy. There’s really nothing like it.”
