Community meeting on Edwards plan is Wednesday
EDWARDS — The Eagle County Planning Commission has initiated a public process to update the 2003 Edwards Area Community Plan. The sub-area master plan is a chapter in the larger Eagle County Comprehensive Plan and is used to guide land use and infrastructure decisions in the unincorporated Edwards area. The first of several public meetings is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Battle Mountain High School. All interested community members are encouraged to attend.
The meeting will include a brief presentation at 5:15 p.m. on the planning process as well as a review of current development and land use patterns, to be followed by a session designed to allow those in attendance to communicate their likes, dislikes, concerns and vision for the future of Edwards. County officials and staff, as well as service representatives from the Edwards area will be on hand to discuss topics such as traffic, recreation, housing, commercial uses, natural resources, and possibilities for future development and preservation.
According to Eagle County Senior Planner Cliff Simonton, an update to the 2003 plan is needed to reflect new conditions, trends and influences in the area.
“Understanding the desires and values of the people who live in and visit Edwards is an important first step in the process,” Simonton said.
A second community meeting is anticipated this fall to review proposed goals, policies, strategies, maps and other elements. Work to update the plan will be conducted in collaboration with the Edwards Community Authority and with the assistance of local planning firm Braun Associates, Inc.
