Company puts brakes on Colo. ski train service

DENVER (AP) – A company that wanted to keep train service going between Denver and the Winter Park ski area says it is giving up.

Iowa Pacific Holdings LLC said Monday that it won’t be able to operate the ski train this season because it hasn’t resolved differences with Amtrak. The company was negotiating to use Amtrak crews.

But the Chicago-based Iowa Pacific claims Amtrak’s last-minute demands for insurance coverage derailed the effort. A federal judge last week rejected the company’s request for a temporary restraining against Amtrak that would have allowed it to start running the train last weekend.

Amtrak officials have said that safety and liability concerns had to be sorted out.
