Condo project replacing ‘ruins’

VAIL – Something is finally rising from the ruins.A new condo development called the Westhaven at Cascade Village is rising from the site of a long-standing, partially constructed building often called “the ruins” beside the Vail Cascade Resort and Spa.

The new project will have 13 condos. The building is expected to be completed in spring of 2007.All 13 condos are under contract, with prices between $1.795 million and $2.895 million. The sales prices averaged $1,050 per square foot, said Mitch Perry of Slifer Smith and Frampton Real Estate. The structure will also have 29 underground parking spaces.

In 1982, a building permit was issued for the site. The developer built the foundation and the lower level parking garage, but construction was halted. Those structures remained for more than two decades, giving the site its informal name, “the ruins.”In the last 11 years, three proposals have been approved for the site, but nothing was built until now.
