Conference center open house is Wednesday
VAIL – An open house featuring prospective designs for a Vail conference center will be held from 5-6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 27 in the Vail Town Council Chambers with a presentation at 5:15 p.m.The design concepts illustrate three potential architectural styles for the center: Bavarian/mountain; contemporary; and a design inspired by the natural environment around Vail. Input gathered from this and other meetings will help determine the design theme for the facility.Following the Wednesday meeting, more community meetings will follow to help determine the preferred architectural style. The public is encouraged comment on the design concepts either in person or via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.Next steps in the conference center process include the selection of a general contractor. The project schedule calls for bonds to be issued by the end of the year, with construction to begin in April of 2005. Voters approved increases in Vail lodging and sales taxes in November 2002 to pay for the conference center. The 100,000 square foot facility, which will be located just east of the Lionshead parking structure, will cost approximately $42.5 million. The design styles can be seen online at http://www.vailgov.com under Current Projects/Issues -Conference Center.
