VAIL — Yoga practitioners can open their hearts during a special restorative class on Sunday, Feb. 14, at the Vail Vitality Center. Participants will explore backbends and other heart-opening poses in a supportive and gentle setting, led by Vail Vitality Center instructor Nicole Mucciolo.
“Valentine’s Day as a celebration of expressing your love dates back for centuries, and even though it’s taken on a more commercial form these days, expressing and receiving love has been shown to really be good for your heart,” said Julia Clarke, the yoga director at the Vail Vitality Center. “So instead of encouraging the sense of obligation people may feel to load up on cards and flowers, we wanted to provide a supportive, relaxing setting where absolutely anyone, regardless of experience or injury, can come in and feel the flow of love.”
The class will focus on restorative poses. By slowing down through this soothing practice, attendees will clear away unnecessary emotional clutter.
“In our very get-up-and-go society, constantly in motion, it is very easy to lose your sense of self and sense of self-care,” Mucciolo said. “The perfect balance is restorative yoga — a slower-paced sequence with all supported poses mostly done on your back.”
Mucciolo has been practicing yoga at the Vitality Center since 2008 and has been a teacher there since 2013.
