GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado – Bert Kreischer, the thrill-seeking host of the Travel Channel’s Bert the Conqueror television show, will shoot an episode of the show at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park on Thursday, May 19.

The episode will focus on Kreischer, who has a strong fear of heights, taking a ride on the 50-foot-tall turbo-charged Giant Canyon Swing.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Bert and his crew to town next month,” said Steve Beckley, who owns Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park with his wife Jeanne. “His show is a lot of fun and has a strong following of thrill-ride fans; the Giant Canyon Swing is a perfect fit.”

Emily Graham, an associate producer with Sharp Entertainment, spotted a video of the swing on Glenwood Caverns’ YouTube page last fall and contacted the Caverns’ publicist, Mandy Gauldin, to learn more about the park and the attraction.

“We’ve made a concerted effort to embrace social media over the past couple of years and it’s been paying off in many ways,” said Gauldin.

Kreischer’s visit to the Caverns is part of a series of shows in which he “explores the hilariously absurd, undeniably dangerous and hands-down insane challenges American towns have to offer,” according to the show’s website.

The year-old, pneumatically powered Giant Swing should fit the bill.

“Since the swing is on an arm rather than cables, it actually lifts you up higher than 90 degrees,” said Beckley. “That seems to be when the screaming really kicks in.”

The swing will take up to four passengers at a time on a 60-second ride, launching them 112 degrees into the air.

“The acceleration is 3.5 Gs,” Gauldin said. “It pulls your cheeks back.”

For the series, Kreischer will also be making a stop at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Va., to ride the Griffon, the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world, and visit the Hawaiian island of Oahu to ride the Shaka waterslide at Wet ‘n Wild Hawaii.

Kreischer is “on a mission to experience it all and release his inner child as he criss-crosses the country and joins locals in gut-wrenching challenges and fearless competitions,” the website states.

The Bert the Conqueror show airs at 6 and 6:30 p.m. on Sundays on the Travel Channel. The Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park episode will air Sunday, July 10, at 6 p.m.

The Giant Canyon Swing, which first opened in May 2010, is scheduled to open for the season on Saturday, May 7, weather permitting.
